Flamenco Guitarist
Marcos Carmona is one of the few American musicians who has been able to enter the closed world of the Spanish gypsy and perform flamenco professionally throughout Spain and the US. Some of the highlights of his career appear below.
2010 - Present
Continues as a working musician and artistic director and producer of Carmona Flamenco and executive director of Flamenco Arts Northwest. Continues his active teaching schedule. Adjunct instructor for Cornish college of the Arts; concerts at Edmond’s Center for the Performing Arts and Tacoma’s Broadway Center for the Performing Arts as well as numerous cabaret and corporate performances and lecture –demos.
2009– 1997 SEATTLE, WA
CONCERTS: Kirkland Performance Center (8 years); Redding California Symphony ; NW Guitar Festival; NW Luthier’s Convention; West Seattle’s ArtsWest Playhouse (2 years); Vancouver BC’s Chutzpah Festival; Portland’s Center for the Performing Arts; Seattle Art Museum.
COLLEGE CONCERTS: Reed College; Community Colleges throughout Puget Sound; Western Washington University; Pacific Lutheran University; Seattle Pacific University; Cornish College of the Arts; Evergreen State college.
CORPORATE EVENTS: Black tie opening of Safeco Field; openings of Seattle’s McCaw Hall and Benaroya Hall; Washington Athletic Club; Bellevue’s Harbor Club; Rainier Club; Starbuck’s annual shareholders meeting; numerous University of Washington events; lunchtime concerts at Microsoft as well as numerous Microsoft banquets; Tourist Office of Spain; Spanish Wine Association.

1996 - 1988
Establishes Flamenco Arts Northwest, a nonprofit corporation for the promotion for the flamenco arts.
CONCERTS: Seattle’s Allegro Dance Festival (4 years); Seattle’s Independent Choreographers Showcase (with Rubina Carmona); Seattle Art Museum; Centrum’s International Music and Dance Festival (in combination with 2 one week residencies).
FESTIVAL APPEARANCES: Throughout Washington State with the State of Washington Centennial celebrations and many smaller festivals.
TEACHING: A continuous endeavor. Private lessons and workshops.
Establishes CARMONA FLAMENCO (1988) upon arriving in Seattle. A small (four to five artists) flamenco group made up entirely of soloists.
1987– 1979 LOS ANGELES, CA
PERFORMANCE: House guitarist for El Cid Flamenco Restaurant (6 years), Los Angeles’ only full time Flamenco Tablao (cabaret); Played with flamenco notable Carmen Mora, principle dancer of the National Ballet Flamenco de España ( five months) as well as many top flamenco artists coming through Los Angeles; with world famous guitarist Paco Lucia at the Los Angeles Music Center.
Principle guitarist for the Ballet Español de Los Angeles under the direction of Oscar winner Roberto Amaral (4 years). Numerous concerts in the Los Angeles and southern California region. Performances at the Los Angeles Olympics and Santa Barbara’s Fiesta Days.

1971 - 1978 SPAIN Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Benicasim, Sevilla, Huelva
PERFORMANCE: House guitarist at El Zorongo, a flamenco tablao in Alicante. An all gypsy show (with the exception of myself and my wife); Performance seven nights a week for four months; more cabaret shows at Madrid’s Arcos de los Cuchilleros and Torres Bermejas; Benicasim’s Las Casteñuelas; Valencia’s El Colmao; Sevilla’s Venta de Antequera.
FESTIVAL APPEARANCES: The Feria de Sevilla; the Feria de Huelva with El Farruco, Spains’s then greatest Bulerias dancer.
STUDIO GUITARIST: in Madrid for La Tati and Ciro, two of Madrid’s top dance instructors. In Sevilla with Matilde Coral, Sevilla’s top instructor.
1969-1970 SAN FRANCISCO
Begins career at San Francisco’s famous Spaghetti Factory after teaching himself the flamenco basics.
